The B team made the short trip to Ennis Sunday morning to take on Turnpike Rovers, both teams starting slowly with the Sun beating down in Lees Road it was a frantic opening to the game the home side looking like they had a point to prove and started to see a bit of possession in the Town half of the field but failed to create anything to trouble the Town keeper. However with the away side settling into the game in the first 20 minutes they themselves saw a bit of joy especially on the wings with Luke Cahill and Eoghan Gough crossing some delightful balls into the Turnpike box only to see them defend really well. Adrian Carew managed to nearly open the scoring when he won a loose ball off the Turnpike full pack to see him carry into the box and see him just drag his effort wide of the post. Eoghan Gough nearly opened the scoring just before the break when we connected with a shot on the half volley only to see the Turnpike defender get a last minute block and divert it away from goal. 0-0 at the break.
With the away side now fully settled into the game and a tweak in formation from the Town management saw the Town men really take over possession putting together really good passages of play and finally opened the scoring when Luke Cahill drove into the middle of the 18 yard box and let loose with a venomous strike into the bottom corner to make it 1-0. 5 minutes later Eoghan Maxwell made it 2-0 when he controlled a pass just on the edge of the 18 yard box and see him strike a fantastic volley into the top corner to give the Turnpike keeper no chance. With the home side now struggling to cope with the sustained pressure the Town men made it 3-0 when wing back Chris Lake broke free down the left wing finding Adrian Carew with a perfect cross he powered his header into the roof of the net. Substitute Conor Slattery got on the score sheet when he broke into the box and latched onto a miss placed header from the Turnpike defender, he deftly lifted the ball over the head of the keeper and see it hit the net to make it 4-0. With the home side conceding numerous corner kicks it resulted in the Town men making 1 count when Eoghan Maxwell found U19's player Fionn McInerney at the back post he headed home from close range to make it 5-0. The Turnpike men now deflated saw them concede a 6th and 7th in quick succession when Eoghan Maxwell slotted home 1 effort with his left foot and another with his right foot 1 in each corner of the net to complete his hattrick.
