The Under 16 A team played away to Bridge Utd 16’s yesterday evening. The Bridge Utd team are going very well at the moment having reached the 1/4 final of the national cup and the final of the Munster regional cup at this age level so this was always going to be a very competitive fixture.
Shannon Town took the lead after 15 minutes only for the goal to be ruled offside, left back Niall Fitzgerald whipped a lovely cross into the box and his twin brother Tadgh raced into the box to score with a powerful header, celebrations were short lived though as unfortunately the goal was disallowed.Sixmilebridge created some chances of their own without really troubling Shannon Towns stand in goalkeeper Sean Murphy who remained calm throughout the first half leaving the sides scoreless at the break.
Sean then swapped goalies jersey with Niall Fitzgerald and returned outfield to play as a striker. Niall and the entire Shannon Town squad of 13 players kept their nerve throughout the second half and battled hard for every ball and came away with a well deserved point.
Fantastic effort from all the lads👍
