Lynch Park played host to the first U14 girls league game of the year as Shannon Town squared up to Bunratty/Cratloe. Missing some players at the last minute forced some last minute changes with Aoife Maloney moving to left back where she excelled throughout. It was a game that was very evenly matched, Rhiann Murphy in goals was in fine form with her ball distribution and in truth was not troubled often with much of the first half being played in the centre of the field. This was mainly due the work rate of midfield with very little getting past and when it did Ava Richter & Courtney Behan contained any attacking threats. In the second half Shannon Town started to play more of the game in the Bunratty half with the tireless work of Emma Riordan who made several bursts down the wing and got in behind the oppositions defence. As Shannon pressed some half chances and opportunities fell to the Shannon girls way with a shot from Kate Lee rebounding back off the post. Oliwia Ludwisiak made her competitive debut up front and pressed really well to keep the Bunratty Cratloe defence under pressure and keeping Shannon Town in their opponent’s half. However despite their best efforts they could not break down a resolute Bunratty/Cratloe. Honours even and a point secured. A good start to the season.
