Shannon Town B 4
Kenneth Buckley ⚽
Adrian Carew ⚽
Luke Cahill ⚽
Kilrush Rangers 1
The B team were back in League action Sunday with a home tie against Kilrush Rangers and after the midweek Clare cup game some tired legs might have been the case but it was the home side who started like a steam train, chasing down every loose ball winning battles for possession early on. With 10 minutes gone on the clock the home side could have scored on 2 if not 3 occasions but for the Kilrush defense to make last ditch tackles. The home side did eventually take the lead when Gary Cusack found the head of Adrian Carew from a kick out he flicked the ball on over the full backs head to see Ken Buckley win a foot race with the Kilrush goalkeeper and flick the ball past him and strike into the open net to make it 1-0. The home side kept the foot on the gas and 5 minutes later Luke Cahill won a battle for the ball with the full back of Kilrush he played a perfect pass into the path of Adrian Carew, he let the ball run across to his left foot and strike on the half volley at the Kilrush goal, the keeper diving but failing to make the save to see the ball hit the back of the net to make it 2-0. With 25 minutes on the clock the Town men won a corner kick and Karl Scott whipped in a beautiful cross into the box to see Takudzwa Nyakujara power home a header into the roof of the net to make it 3-0. With the Town men really pushing the Kilrush defense they scored for a 4th time when full back Chris Lake drove into midfield and fired a long range effort at goal to see the Kilrush goalkeeper parry the effort out in front of him and see Luke Cahill follow up the rebound and fire past him to make it 4-0. With 2 late red cards right on the half time whistle saw both sides reduced to 10 men.
The 2nd half saw the away side get a bit more joy with the Town men upset after the sending off they started giving away possession far too easily and put themselves under some pressure. Gary Cusack making 2 if not 3 great saves to keep the game at 4-0. After 65 minutes the Town men started to get their 2nd wind and nearly made it 5-0 when Kenneth Buckley found Eoghan Maxwell free on the edge of the box only to see his effort fly over the crossbar. Kenneth Buckley came close 5 minutes later when an inch perfect through ball by Robbie Waller saw him run at the Kilrush goal and see the goalkeeper save a great save with his leg to divert the effort out for a corner. With the game drifting into the 80th minute Kilrush managed to pull one back when a corner kick made its way to the back post to see the Kilrush center half poke it home from close range to make it 4-1. Kilrush kept pushing for another goal but the Town defense held strong in the end.
No midweek game see's a break for the B team to rest up for the Clare Cup fixture Sunday the 01/05 at 2.30pm at home to Shannon Hibs A.
