Tulla United A 4

The B team playing their 2nd league game in 4 days against the league leaders Tulla United A, in what felt like 100mph winds at Corrib Drive Wednesday evening it was going to be a tough evening for any team to play football. The away side playing into the wind in the first half got off to a great start when a strike from just outside the box resulted in the referee deeming it a handball inside the area and a penalty awarded, up stepped the Tulla striker he made no mistake and dispatched the penalty to take the lead. 5 minutes later an unfortunate injury to youths player Jamie Doyle saw him make way for Adrian Carew. On the 20 minute mark the home side did hit back when a massive kick out by town keeper Gary Cusack saw the ball fly into the wind and with the Tulla keeper off his line it ended up bouncing on the 18 yard box and over his head and into the net to make it 1-1. 5 minutes later the away side took the lead again when a long ball over the top was not dealt with very well the Tulla striker broke away to slot past the Town keeper to make it 2-1. The home side hit back for a 2nd time when a cross into the box from Scott Lynch saw Adrian Carew control with his right foot and fire into the roof of the net with his left foot to make it 2-2. With 35 minutes gone the home side took the lead for the first time in the game when an excellently spotted ball over the top by Kenneth Buckley saw Adrian Carew and the Tulla keeper race to get to the ball first, Carew getting their first he lobbed the ball over the keepers head and into the net to make 3-2. In what can only be called a frantic first half in the game saw a corner kick from a Tulla winger end up on a Town head and see the ball skip off his head and into his own net to make it 3-3. Again another ball over the top on the stroke of half time saw the Tulla striker break away from the Town defense and slot past the Town keeper for a 2nd time, 4-3 at HT.

The 2nd half was completely one sided as the wind picked up and got stronger with it blowing the ball over the end lines and sidelines from kick outs it was horrendous to try and get any real momentum going, but the Home side pushed high up the field winning all the 2nd balls and battles they pushed for that equalizer again. On the 60 minute mark the Town thought they had won a penalty of their own when it looked like Kenneth Buckley was tripped inside the area but the referee waved away any calls for the penalty. With the Town attackers missing chance after chance they could not find the net in the 2nd half with the help of the Tulla defenders and keeper making some last ditch tackles and saves to keep it at 4-3. Late on more clear cut chances for the Town saw the ball cleared off the line not once but twice and saw the game fizzle out to keep Tulla ahead and win 4-3 in the end. The home side really annoyed for not taking something from this game as Gary Cusack in the Town goal had not one save to make in the whole 2nd half and should have taken their chances. Another positive performance against another A team is all that can be taken from this outing in difficult conditions.

Up next for the B team sees them make the short journey to take on Bridge United B on Sunday at 2pm in Sixmilebridge.
