Shannon Town A started off 2022 with a hard fought win against a gallant Ennistymon side. This game was switched from Lahinch to Lynch Park late Saturday evening. The Town started the better of the two sides creating some half chances but couldn't find a way passed the Ennistymon keeper. On 15 mins a mix-up in the Town defense allowed the Ennistymon side take a surprise lead. 10 mins later the Town were awarded a penalty after Jack Kelly was fouled in the box. Up stepped Brian Monaghan to equalize from the spot. After 30 minutes another mix-up allowed Ennistymon to take the lead again, a lead that they would hold onto until halftime, 2-1.

The second half started with the Town looking for a response and got their equalizer on 55 minutes when Kieran Hackett fired home from 10 yards out. As the Town pushed to take the lead they were again punished for some poor defending and found themselves 3-2 down with 20 minutes to play. On 75 minutes Jack Ryan scored the equalizer with a tidy finish from 10 yards out. 5 minutes later the town were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Up stepped Brian Monaghan he fired home into the top left hand corner to give the town a 4-3 lead. On 90 minutes Jack Ryan scored his second and the Towns 5th with a fine piece of individual skill beating 2 defenders and sliding the ball passed the advancing Ennistymon keeper. This was a performance that the Town management won’t be happy with but will be delighted to get a win while not playing at their best.
