After 2 months or more without a competitive match for the B Team saw them travel the short distance to Newmarket for the restart to their League campaign, after the Cup Final loss back in October the B Team were out for a bit of revenge and started this game with a bit of bite early on winning 50/50 tackles and headers to set the tone. Newmarket grew into the game after the first 20 minutes and saw them threaten the Town back line but nothing too troublesome for the Town keeper Gary Cusack, after 25 minutes Newmarket did get rewarded for their pressure winning a penalty, the Newmarket striker slotted home from the spot to make it 1-0. The Town to their credit didn't let the goal upset them too much and started to take control again, with 35 minutes on the clock a nice passage of play developed in the middle of the park, a pass from Eoin Collins to Ken Buckley saw him slide the ball the Adrian Carew on the edge of the box with 2 Newmarket defenders closing in he saw Jamie Hodge overlap the full back, Carew slipped the ball into Jamie's path he calmly slotted passed the Newmarket keeper to make it 1-1.
5 minutes later the Town took the lead deservedly after a shot on the edge of the box from Eoghan Maxwell saw it deflected into Adrian Carew's path, he curled his effort around the Newmarket keeper into the bottom corner to make to 2-1 to the away side at HT.
The 2nd half started with the Town in control of possession pushing for the 3rd goal but with some good defensive play from the Home side saw them keep the Town attack out. With 55 minutes on the clock Newmarket nearly equalized when a deflected shot saw Gary Cusack make vital save pushing the effort onto the bar and out for a corner. 5 minutes later a long ball over the top to Ken Buckley saw him control the ball on the edge of the box, with him seeing the keeper off his line he clipped a lovely effort over him only to see the ball hit the backside of the crossbar. With Newmarket threatening from an earlier corner they won another one with 75 minutes on the clock, a low ball whipped across the 6 yard box it failed to be cleared ended up with a Newmarket defender lying on the ground he poked the ball past Gary Cusack to make it 2-2. Directly from the restart the Town nearly took the lead again when a nice passage of play saw the ball run through to the Ken Buckley he stepped over it for an on rushing Eoghan Gough he blasted at the Newmarket goal but saw the keeper make an excellent save to keep his side level and finish the game 2-2.
All in all the Town were the disappointed Team to not take all 3 points having kept the game at 2-1 from so long and to concede in the manner in which they did, but lots of positives to be taken out of the performance after being out of League action for so long.
The Town move onto next Sunday with a home game in the League against Hermitage.
