Shannon Olympic A 1
Shannon Town A continued their rich vain of form with a convincing win against local rivals Shannon Olympic. Knowing that a win would get them into the out of area stages the Town came flying out of the blocks to score their first goal after only 3 minutes on the clock; a delightful pass from Brian O Connor found the returning striker Colin Scanlan who finished well into the bottom right hand corner giving the keeper no chance. After 7 minutes the Town found themselves 2-0 up when a great run by Brian Monaghan saw the ball deflected off an Olympic player into the net from 12 yards out. On 30 minutes the third goal came from a corner kick, taken by Brian Monaghan the delivery was headed home by that man again ''Gary O Connell'', 3-0 at the break and the Town were well in control of this game.
The 2nd half started with the Town pushing for a fourth goal and it didn’t take long, on 50 minutes a Brian O Connor effort was parried away by the Olympic keeper to see Rory Hayes tap home from 2 yards out. 5 minutes later and Hayes would grab his 2nd goal of the game when another set piece from Monaghan found Hayes at the near post to see him strike from 6 yards out to make it 5-0. On 65 minutes Scanlan would grab his 2nd of the game with a fantastic finish from 20 yards into the bottom corner. 10 minutes later Scanlan would complete his hat trick blasting his free kick into the corner from 20 yards out. On 80 minutes Olympic grabbed a consolation goal with a great strike from 25 yards out flying into the top corner giving the Town keeper no chance.
So a more than convincing win for the A team who are now looking forward to their next game away in the league taking on Bridge United next Sunday morning at 11am.
