Premier League
Shannon Town A 2
Shannon Olympic A 0
Kieran Hackett ⚽️⚽️
With the poor weather of late this fixture was reversed to Lynch Park on Saturday evening after Shannon Olympics pitch was deemed unplayable.
Shannon Town started the game knowing that a win would put them only one point behind League leaders Avenue Utd. The Town started the game brightly controlling most of the possession and creating a few half chances through Kieran Hackett and Gary o Connell up top. On 30 minutes the Town took the lead with a delightful chip over the keepers head from a tight angle by Kieran Hackett. The Town kept the pressure on and they doubled the lead 10 minutes later after some good work from Brian Monaghan down the left wing Kieran Hackett finished off the move finishing well into the corner to make it 2-0 at the break.
The 2nd half started with the town pushing for the third goal but some poor finishing and some sloppy play it never materialized. The game as a contest in the 2nd half was not the best with both teams going through the motions a little bit but the Town will be happy with the result to stay in touch with Avenue and keep pushing on the league. The Town now stand in 2nd place on 15pts from 6 games.
Next week they will play Shannon Olympic again in the Munster Junior Cup with an 11.00am kick off in Lynch Park.
