A long awaited match to decide Co Clare’s Division 1 Cup winners was played on a cold, windy and wet Halloween.

It was end to end stuff for the first 15 minutes with chances on both sides when Shannon town conceded a soft goal to make it 1-0. Shannon town reacted brilliantly and started to gain the initiative resulting in a super goal from centre forward Jan Zmija who muscled his way passed the Avenue defence making it 1-1. Shannon town continued to apply serious pressure to Avenue Utd but were unable to convert their chances. With only seconds left in the first half Avenue scored against the run of play.

Shannon towns defence were outstanding during the second half in dealing with a number of dangerous situations including blocked shots and goal line clearances. Shannon town attackers had their own chances to win and were unlucky not to score at times but it just wasn’t to be.
