Another hard fought result on Friday in a rainy windswept game against Coole FC in Gort for the U12 girls team tonight. Without our first team keeper, Kate Lee deputised for the first half followed by Courtney Behan & Erin Ward. This took a lot of courage after the heart break of last weeks 22 shot penalty shoot out and cup exit and the whole squad & Mgmt were really grateful to the girls.
Shannon Town started cautiously and absorbed a lot of pressure early on in the Shield competition. Slowly they grew into the game and began to dominate the midfield, Ciara Quirke was excellent throughout. With 10 minutes to go despite sustained pressure it was still 0-0. Kate Lee finally broke the deadlock with a deft left foot finish. With the pressure lifted the girls pressed on and Alyssa Daly on as a substitute was having a great impact down the right wing. The return of Aoibheann Adelu after breaking her arm earlier in the season also helped the team maintain pressure on Coole with solid performances by Laura Connolly, Courtney Behan & Lucy Watson. Eventually Ciara Quirke secured our second goal after a lovely finish with 5 minutes left to play.
All 16 girls got game time and played really well tonight and their teamwork and work rate was impressive as it has been all season long. 2-0 the final score the girls march on in the Shield 💪👏
