Shannon Town B travelled to the Fairgreen in Ennis on Sunday afternoon looking to add another 3 points to the hard earned result in Kilrush the previous week and they did so with a good 2-0 win.
This game started with a bit of end to end football played by both sides with good chances falling to both sides but the better ones falling to the away side and nearly made it 1-0 when an Eoin Collins free kick saw the Hermitage keeper push the effort onto the post and away from danger. Shannon Town attackers started to pressurize the Hermitage defenders and pushed for that all important first goal and nearly did so again when a great cross from Jamie Hodge found Adrian Carew in the box who headed his effort just over the crossbar. The final effort of the first half came a few minutes later, a great passage of play down the left wing from Jamie O Shea saw him play a lovely ball over the top to Adrian Carew but saw the referee call for a dubious offside. 0-0 at half time.
The 2nd half started much the same as the first with attacks from both sides and on the 50th minute Shannon thought they were awarded a penalty when the Hermitage defended lay on the ball purposely in the box only for the referee to award an indirect free kick, which in turn forced another great save from the Hermitage keeper. But Shannon finally broke the deadlock when Alan McInerney rose high from a Shannon Town corner kick, heading his effort over the keeper only to see the last defender on the line palm the ball out of the net resulting in a straight red card and a penalty awarded this time around, Eoin Collins made no mistake and smashed home to make it 1-0.
The away side eventually closed the game out in the 85th minute when they made it 2-0 from a great run down the left wing from Scott Lynch saw him play an inch perfect through ball into Gary Cusack's path who in turn curled a lovely effort around the Hermitage keeper into the bottom corner of the net. The away side delighted to come away with the win having not played their best football this time around but still came away with the all important 3 points.
Next up is Bridge United B Sunday the 19th at 2pm in Corrib Drive.
