The 15 A extended their lead at the top of the table to 5 points after a goalless draw away to Sixmilebridge.
Played again in very hot and sunny conditions this was never going to be an easy encounter. Sixmilebridge needed a win to stay in touch with Shannon Town at the top of the league table, and began strongly dominating possession without creating any clear goal scoring chances. Their best chance came towards the end of the first half with their striker through on goal shooting wide.
The second half saw Sixmilebridge pile on the pressure and push for a goal, but the entire Shannon Town team worked tirelessly, defending brilliantly and kept their nerve throughout. Sixmilebridge had some long range shots which didn’t trouble the Shannon Town goal, and lots of corners and free kicks which again were dealt with calmly by the Shannon Town defence of Luke Fitzpatrick, Aaron Shinners , Niall Fitzgerald and Chris Meaney who was outstanding at centre back. Goalkeeper Liam Ryan Cooke caught, punched, cleared the ball to safety too many times for comfort. Shannon Town created some late chances of their own, with Luke Keating linking with Liam Murphy who found Cian Austin to shoot just over. Ben O’Connell also shot just over soon after, and had an excellent game playing at centre forward.
Huge congratulations to all squad players who fought hard for every ball and remain unbeaten in the league this season.
