Shannon Town U13’s Girls recorded a great win on Monday over a strong Corofin outfit. It was a competitive and tough game that required some quality saves from Rhiann Murphy in the first half for both sides to go in 0-0 at half time. In a tactical move Emma Riordan was moved up from midfield into a strikers role in the second half. This proved decisive. Emma took a free from outside the box and lobbed the keeper for the girls to go 1-0. 10 minutes of battling football and Corofin we’re awarded a penalty only to shoot wide. The whole team refused to give Corofin time on the ball and their work rate was immense. The return of Lexi Reidy from injury bolstered the defence. In truth they all worked so hard to create Emma’s second chance which she broke past the Corofin defence to fire past the keeper. Late in the second half a quality Kate Lee corner caught out a Corofin defender who inadvertently raised her hand to the ball. Frankie Coote pointed to the spot. Penalty. Emma on for her hat-trick took the penalty and blasted it into the back of net. A great team display all 14 girls played their part tonight in a spirited and well deserved 3-0 victory.!
