Shannon Town B started the League Campaign with a very disappointing 5-1 loss at the hands of Newmarket Celtic B, Shannon Town started the game the stronger side for sure with multiple attacks in the first 20 minutes and ended up taking the lead from a corner kick to the back post where Ken Buckley smashed home from a tight angle into the roof of the net to make it 1-0. Shannon nearly made is 2-0 when a cross broke free just outside the 6 yard box and after a scramble between the Shannon Town and Newmarket players the Newmarket defenders along with the keeper managed to clear the ball and went into the break narrowly 1-0 down.

Shannon came out in the 2nd half and kept pushing for the 2nd goal but it just didn't arrive and in the 60th minute Newmarket managed to win the ball in their own corner flag and passing it back to the Newmarket keeper who pumped a long ball over the Shannon Town defense with the Newmarket striker controlling it and scoring to make it 1-1. Shannon Town pushed forward again to try take the lead for a 2nd time but instead in the 75th minute a cross into the box and a lapse in concentration between the Shannon Town keeper and defender ended up as an OG to put Newmarket 2-1 ahead. With 10 minutes to go and Shannon Town pushing forward with 3 defenders at the back ended up conceding 3 more careless goals for Newmarket to take the 3 points this time out.

Shannon Town need to learn from their mistakes quickly and not let such a collapse happen again if they are to be real League contenders.
