Last weekend saw our B Team finish the 1st Division Cup/Shield campaign with a win and reach a Cup Final for the 2nd year in a row having won last season's Division 2 cup with a win against Coole FC in the final, who would go on to be the 2nd division League Champions last season having ended the season slightly stronger and pipping Shannon Town B and Bridge United B who both ended up getting promoted to the 1st Division with Coole as champions.
Having won the opening 3 games convincingly with 5-0, 5-1 and 8-1 wins Shannon Town had a superior goal difference going into the last game against Coole, a draw needed to reach the cup final, Shannon Town took the lead early in the first half with a well worked goal from Gary Cusack who latched onto a great cross into the box finishing to the roof of the net with his strike, a brace of top class goals from inform striker and last season's 2nd division league joint top scorer Ken Buckley made it 3-0 at the break. Ken who was also recently announced to represent Ireland's footgolf team as captain starting the season strong once again. 3-0 at half time and with making 3 substitutions early in the 2nd half to freshen the game up Shannon Town made it 4-0 with a goal from Adrian Carew lobbing the Coole FC Keeper from just outside the box. Coole made a charge with 20 mins to go and were rewarded with 2 quick succession goals with what could be called sloppy defending from Shannon Town to gift a lifeline to Coole, but with 10 mins to go Adrian Carew popped up to score his 2nd of the game and take his tally in the cup to 8 goals. Shannon Town closed out the game taking all 3 points and sets up a mouth watering 1st of 4 games with Newmarket Celtic B this season with the Cup Final to be played in a few weeks time.
This weekend see's the 1st Division League kick off with the first league game being Newmarket Celtic B for a Sunday 2pm kick off in Corrib Drive.
