Shannon Town 15 A continued their great start to the season with another fantastic performance against Avenue Utd. Played again in very high temperatures both teams played some lovely football and gave their all for their teams. Avenue Utd started the stronger, dominating possession in midfield and pushed for the opening goal. Shannon Town kept their shape, continued to press and defended brilliantly, limiting any Avenue goal scoring chances. Shannon Town took the lead through striker Ben O’Connell ⚽️ mid-way through the first half, when he chased the ball into the Avenue box and dispossessed the goalkeeper,calmly passing the ball into net. Ben went very close to scoring again a few minutes later by beating the Avenue defence only to shoot just wide. Tadgh Fitzgerald also went close just shooting over after some lovely play from left winger Shashikant Shinde. Avenue Utd equalised just before halftime with a powerful shot from just outside the box leaving the sides level at the break. Shannon Town started brightly and took the lead early in the second half, Luke Keating won the ball just outside the box, continued his run by beating an Avenue defender in the box and chipped a cross into the 6 yard box for Ben O’Connell ⚽️ to head home. A mix up in the Avenue defence soon after allowed Shannon Town to extend their lead with Cian Austin ⚽️ the quickest to react to make the score 3-1 Sean Alymer ⚽️ scored a brilliant individual goal by beating three Avenue defenders with his mazy run and close ball control before finishing with a well placed shot into the corner of the goal. Shannon Town came close to adding to their lead with shots from Cian Austin and from Luke Keating hitting the post. Right back Lu Fitzpatrick ⚽️capped another outstanding performance by scoring the fifth Shannon Town goal with a powerful well placed free kick from just outside the Avenue box. Excellent team performance that all players should be proud of.
