Temperatures and tempers were high at this very entertaining and competitive fixture. The game was played at high intensity throughout despite the hot conditions and both sides need to be commended for their efforts.

Sixmilebridge started the better and took an early lead from a well struck shot from just inside the box which found the bottom corner on the Shannon Town goal.They continued to dominate until Shannon Town finally found an equaliser towards the end of the first half when Sean Alymer was taken down by the Sixmilebridge goalkeeper which resulted in a red card, and right back Luke Fitzpatrick⚽️ stepped up to slot the penalty home leaving the sides level at the break.

Shannon Town took the lead early in the second half when Luke Fitzpatrick attacking from the right played a beautiful pass to split the Sixmilebridge defense and Ben O’Connell⚽️ sprinted through and finished calmly with a powerful left foot strike into the bottom corner of the goal.

Sixmilebridge continued to battle and were awarded a penalty soon after the Shannon Town goal. Goalkeeper Liam Ryan Cooke got down brilliantly to save and deny an equaliser and the rebound was cleared to safety.

Shannon Town created chances to extend their lead with Sean Murphy going close on two occasions, once hitting the side netting after Niall Fitzgerald found him with a precise long range free kick and another from a header that went just over the crossbar. The third goal came after a strong run from left back Niall Fitzgerald into the penalty area, he was fouled and a penalty was awarded. Luke Fitzpatrick⚽️ stepped up again, kept his nerve and sealed the win for Shannon Town.
